Welcome to Cambridge, England
This book chronicles the life of Janice, a woman content in her role as a cleaner and a collector of stories from the people she encounters at work and during her bus rides. Her world takes an unexpected turn when she begins cleaning for Mrs. B, who gradually breaks down the emotional barriers Janice has carefully erected, encouraging her to reveal her own untold story.
“Never tell your story to a deaf man.” She has never been able to tell Mike her story
I initially picked up this book, hoping for an easy and enjoyable read on a rainy day. However, it turned out to be a more extended journey, taking me over a week to complete. The story kicks off rather slowly, with little of note occurring in the beginning. It’s only towards the end that the narrative starts to gain momentum, with an abundance of events unfolding, perhaps more rapidly than I would have preferred. Nonetheless, it remains an endearing tale, punctuated by moments of genuine charm.
